Summer is here, bringing with it an abundance of festivals! Here’s our pick of the top 5 free family festivals to enjoy a great day out, without having to splash out!

West End Live (22-23 June, Trafalgar Square)

West End shows can be somewhat pricey, but the good news is that this family-friendly celebration of the very best that the West End has to offer is absolutely free! This year’s West End Live lineup features performances from classics shows such as Mamma Mia and Les Misérables, as well as more recent West End hits including Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Matilda, and many, many more!

Bristol Balloon Fiesta (8-11 August, Bristol)

The Bristol Balloon Fiesta brings over 130 hot air balloons together from all over the world for a four-day festival of unforgettable family fun. The festival is free to attend, so you can enjoy the spectacular scenes and family entertainment, without having to put your hand in your pocket. Be sure not to miss the special Nightglow events, where a selection of balloons head up into the night sky to create a mesmerising lighting display accompanied by a specially commissioned soundtrack.

Eastbourne Airbourne Airshow (15-18 August, Eastbourne Seafront)

Celebrating their 27th anniversary, the award-winning Eastbourne Airbourne Airshow is the perfect family day out. It showcases the breathtaking sights of both military and civilian aviation displays along a 2-mile stretch of Eastbourne seafront, with the Breitling Jet Team as this year’s event headliners. The event is an unmissable opportunity to see astonishing flying displays, and the best thing is it won’t cost you a penny to attend.

Classics on the Common (24 July, Harpenden)

There is a huge variety of free family festivals out there these days, and if you happen to have a love of classic cars, then Classics on the Common is the family festival for you. This one-day festival is one of the largest celebrations of classic cars, bikes and scooters in the UK with over 950 classic vehicles on display during last year’s 25th Anniversary celebration. Entry as a spectator is free, but if you have a classic car hidden away in your garage, you can join in and display in exchange for a small charitable donation.

Lambeth County Show (20-21 July, Brixton)

With over 100,000 people in attendance at last year’s festival, the Lambeth County Show is one of the biggest and most diverse free family festivals in the country. It offers an incredible line-up of local and international music across a range of stages, as well as all the tradition of a county fair with market stalls, farm displays and horticultural shows. As a festival with a strong focus on sustainability and an environmentally friendly atmosphere, it is the ideal summer day out for all the family.
